This project builds on the previous project I did on this site: Howard Smith Wharves. As the final project, it required a fully realised design that would activate the site through some form of activity. This design is a gym/cafe that sits on the rivers edge. 

 

This design builds upon the previous projects in the unit. It creates new spaces that provide multiple ways to engage with the site. With a small footprint, the building avoids interference with existing activities while still providing substantial indoor and undercover space. The exterior blade shading filters light from the sun while creating an interesting materiality, both inside and out.

 

After scrapping several previous designs, this form developed only 2 days before presentation day so the design is very rudimentary. Although my design anxiety made the process very inefficient and stressful, I'm fairly happy with the overall concept. However, I would have liked to have taken this design further.
