ecobee Costco Retail Display

As part of ecobee’s retail strategy, the marketing team was planning to start selling products at Costco. Their main competitor, Nest, was planning to do the same.
In order to decide between the two, Costco would run a test campaign in 25-50 stores with both products. Whoever had the highest sales would get a permanent spot on the floor.

For the test campaign, leftover ecobee3 thermostat stock was used. I worked with the marketingteam to develop a pallet display for the product and pick tickets to take to the cash register. We used existing data surrounding customer retail journeys and
importance of information and key benefits to determine where each design element would go on the display.

There were mutiple templates needed to piece the pallate together, with section labels and mockups becoming important to make sure nothing was misprinted or left out.

In the end, ecobee outsold Nest and now operates in 500 US Cost co stores. There has also recently been an expansion into Canada, selling the ecobee3 lite.
