Monnickendam - we decided to take a bus to Monnickendam instead of taking the boat back to Volendam and that wasnt really one of the best decisions we made that day. we reached Monnickendam in 15 minutes but the town looked completely desserted. we reached a spot that had a nice church, but it was closed and then we made friends with some local school boys who showed us the direction to another famous church in the town. we walked for about 45 minutes to reach the town but the entire street seemed to be empty, not a soul in sight. we then got to know the town is so small , that it usually depends only on tourists and that happens mostly during the day time. the part of town we were in , virtually shuts down in the evening so we headed back to a local bus stand and had to wait for another hour to get back to Amsterdam Central station.
