Dayton Edwards 2023

This final was designed after the poster for the movie "Blade Runner 2049". The reason I choose this poster was because I enjoyed the movie and I also like the whole 2 worlds colliding as a background. This final project took many many hours (not totally sure how many), but I put in around 1-2 hours into this a week since it was assigned. Over the whole project I learned new ways to make textures, colors, warp, change, and edit photos. I know if I was asked to redo the final, I would do some things different and make this a lot better with its features after the skills I learned while doing this project.

This Bedance page I will show and explain how I did some of the more difficult things I did/ didn't know how to to do it.

First up is merging the background, this took around 30 minutes to find a good video on how to do it but I wanted to merge the 2 photos together.

The way I merged the 2 photos together was but putting both images into a smart object. Next I used the "Gradient" tool on the blue colored background and had it merge and fade slowly to the left to combine into the left photo. This way the fade effect from the gradient tool would overlap the left image. Next I put a photo filter on both images that way they had a hue to them. I didn't want it as extreme as the Blade Runner poster.​​​​​​​

The only harsh part of me doing the text portion of this project was I did it in destructive way because I wanted to do this on my own. I first made the text as seen and then choose a good font then edited it to be a shape I desired. Then used the triangle shape tool and had it hover over the desired spot, then in the same motion I merged the shape layer with the text that was in a smart layer now. After that was said and done I used a mask and removed the triangle portion to clip out that part of the text. Lastly I had a new gradient layer to make the middle to bottom part of the page had no saturation. Look back at this part I could have defiantly had the same result with a less destructive action.

The next portion of the final was blending the images to look like they are more attuned with the background. I noticed the back image was blurred/not focused and I didn't want my images to look to sharp compared to the back. So I messed with some of the noise setting in my images and then on the last day I learned and played with the blur tool a lot and ended up with this result. I cant say I knew exactly what it would look like because I just put 1-3 blur effects on the an image to get it to blend it more. I 100% could figure out a way to make this look better but I also like how it turned out.

The details part of this project was also very enjoyable. That reason being was because I got to play around with the blending options, warp, perspective, and many other tools to blend them in. For most of the details in this image I used a blending mode that would best fit into the scenery it was placed in. Next I would make sure to use perspective and warp to make the images look like they aren't just placed on the image. When I made sure they are all placed correctly I then used a brush to either bring wear to the stickers or bring over the shadows that way it didn't just glow over where shadows should be. There are many other stickers, details, and other things on the man in masks gun, the suited mans suit and other places. 

After this is said and done there are defiantly some things I would change about this project and some things I wouldn't. There are also just as many fun moments with this project as there were annoying. However I do have to say after doing this project I learned a lot more than I thought I would have. When starting this class I had no idea what a mask was let alone some of these other wild options are. I can confidently say this class helped me improve my skills and I know after some more practice, I could make some even better results.
