Go custom, if you ever have a chance.
Kiley Remund of World on Water Surf and Paddle Boards (Bend, Oregon) shaped a new SUP board for me. It is a surf orientated design, but will have enough float and stability to paddle flat water as well. For the board's art, I am simply working with fields of white and black. The crazy contrast forces you to see the shape, emphasizing the object, while allowing things like the deck traction pad to nearly disappear. And my wife and I love modern minimalism.
The trees on the bottom represent the four huge ponderosa pines in our yard, and the narwhal diving into the black reminds us of our place in the great big world.
Shown above is the digital board art mock-up, final photos coming. Included with the boards above is a photo of my bamboo, poplar and fiberglass SUP paddle I made last year.
