CÉVENNES NATIONAL PARK
I had the opportunity to make a series of stamps about my native region, the Cévennes (in the south of France),
on the occasion of an interview for Maison Tangible. I talk about my origins, travels, nature, resilience,
and many other things…
Enjoy the complete series and the interview on Maison Tangible.
The Coal Mines of the Ales Basin. I am the granddaughter of an Italian miner, I was rocked by my grandfather's stories : the coal, the mountain of slag heaps, the wells, the metal structures... This environment made grow in me a fascination for industrial architecture.
The Causse Mejean. It is a high plateau which overhangs the gorges of the Tarn. I have a deep admiration for the inhabitants of the few hamlets that remain there, lost in the middle of eroded rocks and arid vegetation. The isolation is absolute there !
A few years ago I was strongly affected by the Cévennes floods. Some bathing places of my childhood have been devastated by these torrential rains which wash away everything in their path. Witnessing this climatical phenomenon makes you feel very vulnerable to nature. The immutable asset to you can disappear overnight! It builds a temper...
The Mont Aigoual meteorological observatory. It is a place where you feel very small with a 360° view of all the Cévennes. The observatory is constantly swept by the winds, and has to face extreme climates in winter. When frost coats the vegetation, the landscape becomes absolutely magical.
The majestic viaduct of Chamborigaud. In the middle of the 19th century, the region saw the development of the steam train industry. The PLM (French railway company) opens up the region in order to connect Paris to the Mediterranean. Let yourself be carried through Cévennes valleys to discover beautiful bridges from that period.
The magical summer evenings… peering into the sky and counting shooting stars. The sky of the Cévennes is so dark that it is as starry as the Atacama desert’s sky! Every year with my son, we ritually sleep under the stars in the garden, among crickets, rare glowworms and nocturnal animals. It's a pure pleasure !
