Claredon is the name of a typeface that was released in 1845 by Thorowgood and Co. The credits for the original design go to Robert Besley. The typeface was very successful and very soon it became an entire genre of type design. It was mainly used for display applications. My project consisted in analyzing the typeface and retracing the skeleton. Starting from the skeleton I designed the strokes and the shape of the letters to give it a completely new look. I designed two different fonts: Castagne, which is a sans serif, and Summit, which is a serif.
