Multiply is an alphabet I designed, inspired by mitosis and cell divisions. I was interested in the simple structures that slowly build up to create elaborate structures. I researched basic structures on many objects, but found that on a biological level, cells were incredibly dynamic things. I wanted to focus on the building up of cells into a form, and particularly that moment right before the cell splits into two. Each letter uses one large cell, which is about to split, anchor cells on most terminals, and smaller cells to fill the structures. The letterforms are only partially filled, using the gestalt effect to complete it, imaging where the cells would eventually fill up to. To contrast the micro scale of cells, a poster was made on a macro scale of the Hubble Telescope. Creating a poster for the Hubble telescope completely changes the vernacular of the cells, allowing them to take on new purposes. The Hubble telescope is located beyond our atmosphere, which allows undistorted views of the universe. Read Less
