Digital Art Images of a Road Project During Covid-19

Artist's Statement
When it hit, we were all shocked as to the change in our lifestyle, whatever that may have been before Covid-19.

Because the City had already given us notice that our dead-end road was going to have a major construction repair, including a new water system and repaving, my wife and I had a summer trip planned to avoid the inevitable mess and inconvenience due to the project. But the trip had to be canceled, we were locked in with a shelter-in-place order, and the road construction was to proceed – a bad combination!

Ordinarily, during our trips, I take many photographs that I use as a starting point for creation of digital art.  And ordinarily, I wouldn’t focus on construction workers and construction projects as the subject matter. But, as I learned, that was a mistake.  These workers are an essential component of our society and are not only colorful and interesting as the subject matter of art but are worthy of our gratitude.

The digital art that sprang from my photographs, albeit at a distance because of Covid-19, gave me an opportunity to be distracted from the psychological trauma of the lock-down, and gave me a feeling of pleasure that one gets from creating something that may be considered artistic.
