Level Design
The name of my game is called Overgrown Island because each Island in the game has something overgrowing and consuming the Island.
The player’s point of view would be first-person as they would be able to hold a weapon for shooting enemies.
The overall gameplay of the game would be to reclaim what humanity has lost to the Elves that have invaded these islands and killed off the civilization that was there to start their magic rituals of overgrowing nature to consume everything. The levels would change Island to another overgrown Island with a different asset that has been overgrown there. For example, the next level would be an overgrown mushroom that is consuming the Island. The player would go to these Islands stopping the rituals, in a horde mode of battle with waves of different elves and creatures coming to stop the player. The level would end with players making their way to the overgrown asset to find the boss of the level in that area. Once defeated a portal to the next level would open. The level would start with Traitorous Tree, Malicious Mushroom, and Formidable Flower, and end at the last level Ravenous Ruins which would be where all the life forces that the other Island were stealing are being sent for the Elves’ most powerful ritual of bringing a Titan to life, one that has the power of the bending nature and plants life to its will.
This level fits in the game design as the first level that players come to because of having a family that suddenly stopped responding. The level will serve as a starting point of the game when the player arrives, they will be struck by a massive tree that they have never seen before when visiting the family in the past. Not being able to get too close to the tree at first the player moves on the find the cabin which is now abandoned and overrun by creatures. After being introduced to some enemies the player would move on to the lighthouse noticing a creepy ritual site on the way. Once at the lighthouse the player would find one of his family members who tell the player what has happened and that other family members have been taken to other Islands. The player would then know he needs to stop the rituals from happening and move back to the overgrown tree to fight the boss. Once defeated the player could move on to the next level.
The mood of the game and levels is to be mysterious with a little bit of creepiness. The recurring asset on each Island would be these creepy ritual sites that are assumed to be connected to the overgrowth on each different island. While the areas where humans used to live are abandoned, there is a mystery behind a different species inhabiting the overgrown organic life forms on each Island. Some of the colors that I have are going to be changed to more creepy darker colors as the greens do not reflect well with my ideas, so I have decided to change to more fantasy colors such as purple, red, black, and dark blues to give the plants a more unnatural feeling to them since they are derived from dark magic.
