SWEAT WORKSHOP, THE STRAIGHT & NARROW PROJECT
The 2013 SWEAT Workshop consisted of eighteen participants and was designed around eighteen individual journeys, which reflects upon the experiences of those involved. With five hundred feet of asphalt and a week of planning, each person designed their own pattern as a subjective signifier for their own journeys, which came from the message that "The Straight & Narrow Yields Little Discovery."
The theme my pattern focused on was family and the need for established self-awareness and stability. The zigzag pattern expresses the power of communication and social support in an effort to alleviate social and mental stigmas. The pattern is an abstract representation of kinetic sound, which travels throughout the composition of the mural, working as a positive reinforcement to the context of journey and personal growth through the act of communication.
