PHERSU

Stop-motion | Video Art

Solar eclipse, August 11, 1999, a little girl left her country.
She was carrying a rag doll bigger than her; her heart was pounding and her eyes saw the lights of Paris for the first time.
That was me, facing the first big change in my life.
Others arrived; other experiences that taught me to adapt and open my mind to the world. With me, I brought my roots, my culture and growing up they transformed with me.
Who I am?
I'm looking for my essence, lost in this society that distracts us from ourselves;
where we are "Phersu" (masked characters) who struggle internally
between essence and personality.
Life is our theater where we are not truly free and real courage lies in continuing to seek within ourselves what we have lost.

"Phersu" in Etruscan means "mask".
For the title and the project, I took inspiration from the etimology of the word "person".
RUFA Contest 2016: "How deep are your roots?"

THEATER OF LIFE

Handmade

The "Theater of Life" imprisons our essence that I wanted to depict through dolls designed with natural materials. The faces were printed on raw fabric, obtained from a plexiglas matrix engraved with drypoint.
The structure of the theater is made of plywood, equipped with a light installation.
