Kerala | A Series of Icons

A series of icons created as part of the Iconomic Meltdown 2013 organised by the folks at Beard Design.
The theme of this set is inspired by my home state of Kerala.
An outline of the state map.
A detailed outline of the state map with its districts.
You are typically greeted with this gold lamp.
The face of a Malayali woman wearing gold jewellery and a bindi on her forehead.
This is the traditional Keralite sari that is usually white cotton with a golden border.

This could be the face of a typical Keralite man with the characteristic long, well-groomed moustache.
This attire is traditionally worn by most men. A long cotton tunic or kurta over a cotton white cloth draped around the waist called mundu.
Kerala is a coastal state and so fish is a staple dish. This is a preparation of pearl spot fried in a banana leaf called karimeen pollichathu.
A young banana tree.
Coconut trees are plentiful in Kerala. People usually use every part of a coconut tree; from the coconut flesh in dishes to its husk used to make coir. The tender coconut water is known for its refreshing and medicinal properties.
Kerala is gifted with lush green forests and beautiful backwaters.Houseboats like these are a common way of traversing the waterways. A houseboat is equipped with everything that a hotel has to offer complete with personal crew. Tourists usually stay in a houseboat for a few days to exprience peace and tranquility.
Kerala has a rich treasure trove of traditional arts and crafts. This is the head gear and make up worn by the performers of the dramatic dance form of Kathakali.
