Gajan Festival in West Bengal

Gajan Festival, also known as Gajan Festival, is an annual Hindu festival celebrated in the Indian state of West Bengal. This festival is celebrated to honour Lord Shiva and marks the beginning of the Bengali New Year. It is a vibrant and colorful festival that lasts for several days, where people gather to offer prayers, performs traditional dances and rituals, and take part in various cultural activities. As a photographer, I had the opportunity to capture the essence of this festival through my lens and present it in this Behance project.
I also captured a group of devotees performing the traditional "Charak Puja" ritual, where they pierce their skin with hooks and hang themselves on a wooden pole. This ritual is believed to be a way of seeking blessings from Lord Shiva and is a significant part of the festival.
The final photographs in my collection capture the joyous celebrations of the Gajan Festival. It showcases a group of people coming together to celebrate the festival, with music and dance performances in the background. The photograph captures the smiles and laughter of the people and the overall festive atmosphere of the event.
Gajan Festival is a unique and vibrant celebration of culture and tradition, and I feel privileged to have been able to capture its essence through my photographs. The festival is a beautiful showcase of the diversity and richness of Indian culture, and I hope my photographs have done justice to it.
Kali is the Hindu goddess of death, time, and doomsday. She is often associated with sexuality and violence but is also considered a strong mother figure and symbol of motherly love. Kali embodies Shakti – feminine energy, creativity and fertility – and is an incarnation of Parvati, wife of the great Hindu god shiva.
