Self-Critique
What I like about this piece is that I made a creature that had the resemblance of a cobra with crab and an armadillo-type shell. The creature I made also has some fit to the skydome and background camera image plane as the ground is wet with water from the rain on that day, so I suppose that it was a good time to take photos for my skydome and camera image plane. Only thing that doesn’t fit about the images is that a sea creature is in a parking lot, although of course, for this assignment, I couldn’t nor was I planning to give him an underwater scene. A scene near water would have been better, of course with a solid ground and not sand for the purpose of the assignment. I didn’t make my way to something like that as for one, I forgot, and two, probably would take all day to find a large enough area of solid ground for a 100 foot long creature to fit in with the water if there is any. I also like the texturing that I did to the model. The color scheme looks nice with it having the colors of a teal body, a dark gray rough skin, and orange shell and claws. The texturing I did in Zbrush made the creature look more serpent-like with the addition of a scale texture to both skins of the creature. The rough skin, shell, and claws have a scratch design added to them as well to show more detail within the model.

The difficulties that I had with the creature project was working with this thing with so many edges. It all started when I added subdivisions to the model by 2. Rendering was slow and took a great portion of time. I now know that that was a mistake. Every time I would render, the application would crash after taking long. I even “broke” the scene file, with me being unable to do something such as checking my hypershade with the software crashing. Luckily I found a solution to diagnose this: New scene, copy and pasted everything to the new file, and reduced subdivisions. I reduced the subdivisions by 50% which made it better, but still take quite some time to render, making it tedious to get the assignment in on time. I probably would have increased the reduction percentage if a certain part of my model didn’t look like it should have. It is a pretty big creature, so the model did need a lot of edges to make its big size.
