When it comes to cigars, France certainly isn't the first country you would think of. The word "cigar" brings up images of blue smoke drifting over a card table, a glass of cognac warming over a candle or even the pulse of a Salsa beat on a tropical night. I wanted to create a company (more of an identity, really) for handmade Parisian cigars to alter the perception of artisan cigars, an innovate twist on the norm, something avant-garde. Thus, Avant Cigare was born. I feel that design projects and brand identity should be able to cohesively incorporate a number of different styles into a single product. For Avant Cigare, I tried to create an eclectic mix of designs to represent one brand on the precipice of new and old worlds. For instance, the logo is a mix of iconography and clean text representing both the traditional, elegant nature of cigars and the recent resurgence in popularity of mustaches.
