EATS Collaboration: Logos and Labels //
For this project, Design Development students collaborated with EATS, an organization that works with public high schools to transform overlooked and underused resources in urban communities into low-cost, high-yield, year-round community farms. The project of designing a logo and labels for ready-to-eat products lasted eight weeks and involved extensive research that supported my team's design decisions. We wanted the products to defy the "green cliché" while still conveying the locality and freshness of the produce. The font and general aesthetic of the labeling is inspired by the intimacy of handwritten chalkboards found at farmer's markets. The simplicity of the dusty black and white palette does not compete with the natural colors of the vegetables, allowing the products to speak for themselves. We also chose to add elements of wit and playfulness to both the aesthetic and content of the labels to appeal to the high school students who will be growing and packaging the vegetables.
