Moppet- Handmade typeface

This was one of the most elaborate and longest projects that I undertook. The process of developing a completely new typeface from the rough strokes of a popsicle stick was the challenge here. Initially, I explored different materials to write the alphabets with by dipping them in ink. While exploring, I found an interesting texture in the popsicle stick alphabet. The bits of wood that gave exciting edges and corners to the alphabet interested me. I took that rough sheet of paper to my system and started tracing out and giving finishing touches to every letter to make them look from the same type family. After I was happy with the alphabet, I used the software Pencil 2D to publish my typeface under the name Moppet. The most difficult task was adjusting space between the letters right from AA, AB, AC all the way till ZX, ZY, ZZ and same for the lower case as well. This took an entire week because I had to make sure they look perfectly spaced when typed together as different words. After everything, I created interesting applications of this typeface using it in different places and scenarios but mainly for products for kids as the typeface gave me that childish vibe. Overall, I was more than satisfied with this project and so was my project mentor.
