The city of Maastricht, situated in Netherlands, is one of the few places in Europe with 2,000 years old roman heritage.

Connecting the citizens and the visitors of the city, with it's rich history, enhances cultural cohesion and inspires those that explore it to learn more about their past. 

We developed a complete prototype of the Roman Maastricht, using virtual reality and accurate historical data, into an immersive experience where people can teleport 2,000 years back in time. This proof of concept enables us to show that immersive technologies can blur the line of time and history, and can make learning more enjoyable than ever, benefiting from strong psychological presence stimulated by VR. 

 

The city and its characters were 3D modelled, textured and programmed, optimally to ensure that the 'walk back in time' feels as real as our daily life. 

The project is currently a work in progress, we are open to collaborations for further expanding this concept together with city halls, museums or other interested stakeholders.
