Space Saving Furniture
A minimalistic furniture that saves space and provides
multi-functionality, thus a perfect fit for spatial living.

As cities across the globe grow in population, living spaces are shrinking.

Those who live in cities mostly live in tiny apartments or shared homes that
require a lot of space budgeting.
In order to meet the spatial demands of tiny living, space saving furniture can prove to be an efficient option for various environments that ensures functionality, comfort, ergonomic efficiency and are multi-functional.

A good solution for spatial living would be a bedside table designed to save space for better convenience and multi-functional purpose. It can be used as a bedside table to keep routine items and it also has a detachable bed table that can be used to keep laptop, food. The bedside table will have two compartments that can be hidden by the bed table. It will also have a thin and long compartment to store objects like laptop, folders, etc. The target audience are the single and married people between the age range of 18 to 35 years who often shift home.

The inspiration for the space saving bedside table is the material of the table with the rounded edges and the corners of the furniture.

Also, the natural material is the key element with wooden grainy texture to show the basic and the raw truth of being made out of wood.

The material used to make this beside table is plywood, as it is firm and sturdy.  The bedside table is made of plywood due to it is strong, durable nature and
cost efficiency. Although plywood is cheaper in comparison to other woods,
it has its own unique properties due to which the edges are not altered
to show the natural state of material. A palette of eggshell white and grey
have been used to coat the furniture to give it a minimalistic look.

The bed table is also made out of plywood. But the curve of radius of 70 mm is made up of 5 mm sheet of plywood. Due to the deep curve and extreme radius, the 5 mm sheet was laser cut into 100 small parts as seen on the right.
Each side has 50 pieces, which are further glued, clamped and thoroughly sanded to get a perfect curve and a smooth finish with a nice-looking texture.

The length of the table is 450 mm, the width is 250 mm, and the height is
also 250 mm.

The above bedside table is designed to save space for better convenience and multi-functional purpose. It can be used as a bedside table to keep routine items and it also has a detachable bed table that can be used to keep laptop, food, etc. The bedside table has two compartments that can be hidden by the bed table.
It also has a thin and long compartment to store objects like laptop, folders, etc. Although the design looks basic, the process and its learnings are the goal of this project.

The height of the bedside table is 565 mm, and the length and width of the table is 400 mm by 460 mm. The average height of a human is between
1500 mm - 1850 mm. The standard height of a bed is 635 mm;
thus, the bedside table is nearly in level with the bed.
