AGRICULTURE HUB: FROM FIELD TO FORK

Linsendorf is a hamlet in Carinthia, a small beautiful island with an open field on it, a view of the mountains and a popular spot for bathing. It’s easy to see why the locals feel a strong connection to the land and have a strong sense of community. We quickly realized that this place has many special features that need to be addressed and respected, and that a simple but powerful move and program were needed.
The island has a history of apple and apple cider production, and together with newer “glamping” and bathing activities on the island, we believe there is an opportunity to create a strong, poetic bond between the people who live here, visitors, and the land - thus the idea of a self-sufficient agricultural island was born. We studied the process of apple production and created a concept based on the idea of preserving all functions “in house” on the island - from production, processing to consumption of products, thereby some typical steps in the process are shortened - saving time, money, energy, and labor costs, while giving the island local and regional significance. We also set up an “agrarian hotel” where people come to help with apple picking and earn accommodation. The apple production process can be shortened by strategically placing everything in one place, so there is no longer a need for transportation, special packaging, and storage, leaving only necessary steps in which most people can participate and be part of the community.
