Pat Cooper's profile

Antarctic Landscapes

The British Antarctic Survey operate several bases and I spent a lot of time at Halley and Rothera. Rothera is operated all year and used mainly as a staging post for field parties working further south. BAS have a fleet of Twin Otter and Dash 7 aircraft which transport people/fuel/equipment to remote locations as well as South America. The Twin Otters are equipped with retractable ski's so can land almost anywhere.

Unlike those who join a cruise ship all my pictures are opportunistic and we don't have the luxury of finding images - they have to come to us. Thankfully I have managed to be in the right place at the right time so over the years built up a good collection.
