Resistance
Motion graphic
The project
Resistance is a motion graphic short I produced for my Advanced MotionGraphics class. Heavily influenced by the dystopia world of George Orwell's 1984 and the rebellious, free-will theme of Muse's The Resistance album, I would love to tell a story of love and free will, in which two individuals tries to break away from their conformity to find their freedom, both mentally and physically.

The whole process took exactly 4 weeks from very first sketch to the final render, I can truly say I have pushed myself to a new limit with this video. I chose to go with a minimal pallete, which helps portraying a dull, monotonous future world. Rotoscoping is the main animation technique that I chose to explore in motion graphic. I believe there are still rooms for improvement, though I have learnt a lot in the process.

Disclaimer
Resistance artwork, Origin of Symmetry artwork and MUSE logo belongs to Muse and Warner Bros Music. I own nothing but my story and my characters.
Moodboard
I was inspired and influenced by the Russian Constructivism and the work of Saul Bass. This reflects in a minimal palette and maximise use of negative space.
The storyboard
I normally have a strong idea of composition and transition at this stage. Small thumbnail sketches also helps me move quickly from one shot to another, without investing too much time on the details yet still have the main elements and composition in place.
Style frames
Early developed style frames, it changed slightly throughout the process but main elements remain.
