Simple online payment method for unmanned station

Fastned is a Dutch company building a network of twohundred fast-charging stations for electric vehicles in the Netherlands. Fast-charging stations is essential for the introduction and spread of the electric vehicles.

Regular unmanned stations use payment terminals, which are expensive and subject to skimming. To create a better customer experience, we have created a new payment method. soon a customer can pay at Fastned with a payment app without the need for debit or credit cards or other regular payment methods. This app is capable of providing other customer services in the future.

I managed the design process and used an app-flow and wireframes to brief the graphic designers and the supplier.

The app is intuitive, iOS 7 ready, uses big buttons and has the corporate design of Fastned.

The app flow includes the registration process, the charging process and additional menu items like maps (showing the location of the Fastned stations), charging history, personal settings and a help item.

The charging process starts with a welcome-screen, showing the user at which Fastned station he is located

After confirming his location, the customer chooses his charger (similair to different pumps at a gasstation) and his outlet (similair to the different types of gasoline at a pump)

Once the charging is done, the customer gets notified that the session is ended.

As the stations are unmanned, we ask the customers to give their feedback on the station's cleanness.

The app has a map to show the Fastned charging stations. The different icons show the stations that are open and the stations that are being build. If the user clicks on a station he can see how many fast-chargers are available at that location.
