In the United States, the Super Bowl consistently ranks as the most-watched television program of the year. While other pro sports leagues fail to match the Super Bowl in terms of viewership, a number of championship series have drawn strong television ratings, such as the 1998 National Basketball Association (NBA) Finals.

The 1998 NBA Finals between Michael Jordan’s Chicago Bulls and John Stockton’s Utah Jazz is, in fact, the most-watched NBA series of all time. The series averaged 29.04 million viewers and a 33 share, meaning approximately one out of every three television sets in the nation was tuned in. The series also featured the single most-watched game in NBA history, with Game 6 supporting an audience of 35.89 million and a 38 share.

Jordan and the Bulls won the series in six games. It was Chicago’s third consecutive championship and sixth title in eight years.
