Brief: To create a Brand identy for a Berlin/London based record label. It must consist of brand guidelines, a record sleeve and all the design elements of a launch party. Click on the images to see them in a higher resolution.
The brand guidelines for somethinksounds are very strict when it comes to the setting of the logo, typography and layout of print materials. There is more freedom when it comes to producing images as any object can be used, so long paint is poured over it in the correct way.
The whole brand is centered on the idea of aligning music with visual art. The ethos of the brand takes inspiration from the contemporary art scene in Berlin
The typography of the launch party poster, flyer, wristband and ticket is purposefully similar to the record sleeve, as it is an EP launch too. The central image of the melting record is to make it very clear at a glance that this is a poster/ flyers concerning music, as it needs to shout above all the other posters. The minimal colour pallet also helps with this
This is the projection that will be used at the launch parties in London and Berlin. It steers clear of the lighter background of the other visuals, as it would be too bright in the clubs. This light bulb was filmed in a basement and it is in slow motion.
As this is the first release from the label, it echoes everything that makes the brand unique. I have kept the front image the same hue of red as the logo and the background colour the same as the rest of the brand. This is because for most people this EP will be the first contact point with the brand
This vinyl release will be available online and in record shops on the launch date (29/11/14) the price will be £5.99.
The website traffic will come from people googling the label and seeing it on posters and record sleeves.
The site itself will have everything that the brand is doing from record releases to clothing. When you click on a tab, the transparent white box you see will appear over the light bulb. This box is then scrolled up and down to see the content. This is where most of the sales will be made.
