Hello!

Today I am happy to present you my new work.

The Secret Garden by  Frances Hodgson Burnett is a true classic of children's literature. I have known this story for a long time and love it dearly.

Last year I was lucky enough to draw illustrations for The Secret Garden Devotional, this version was written by Rachel Dodge and published by Barbour Books in the fall of 2022.

The book is small, but very cozy and really spring. Here and there, the reader can find thickets of ivy, and the green ribbon bookmark and tinted pages add to the feeling of a spring garden.

Every book starts with sketches. First, I sketched all sixteen illustrations, then I selected a rough color for each of them so that I could imagine in advance how all the works would look together. And only then did the final color.

I'll show you a couple of illustrations in the process. 

And here she and Deacon found the first spring flowers in the garden:

I myself love nature, plants and flowers. I live in Germany, and every spring my heart trembles from the beauty around, because the streets, city parks and forests turn into real greenhouses.

It gives me inspiration to draw and books like The Secret Garden are the best gift for me as an illustrator.
