The Interior Design Educators Counsel (IDEC) Student Design Competition.
Migration and Refugees have always been with us. Are the new arrivals welcomed or disparaged? This year’s IDEC Competition addresses the issue of shelter, whether temporary or permanent for people on the move. My partner Karla Niederhauser and I developed a permanent shelter for a Guatemalan refugee family, escaping from the dangers of working on a Banana Plantation. Our design goals were addressed the family’s physical needs for shelter while also acknowledging their psychological needs for safety.
