'Yanai' is a weave design development project undertaken during the course of studying Indian Traditional Textiles. I chose to study the motif style and characteristics of Elephants to understand how it occurs in various states and sarees across India.
As in every craft, it changes styles and depiction according tot he local culture of any region and state.
Elephants have always been a part of the royal court and are considered to be one of the strongest animals of the jungle therefore in "Yanai", they have been depicted in the form of "Royalty of the Jungle".
Combining figurative motifs of Baluchari and Benarasi Brocades, and Kancheevaram sarees, This projects paints the picture of how the elephant is the master of the jungle and holds command over the area like a King in a royal court.
