Digital signage seems everywhere.
 
Have you ever taken a moment to look around and notice the electronic advertising displays that are used for digital signage? As you can imagine any area with a high foot fall is an ideal location, any place from Time Square in New York to transit hubs, these are a marketing agencies dream, but for people going about their business, this is an opportunity to be updated on important news, as these displays can be used to update us of breaking news, everyone remembers where they were when they hear d of the Twin Towers. But now every location has some form of digital marketing that also provides information as well as commercials.
 
Digital signage is broken down into 2 sections, indoor and outdoor digital signage. Depending on whom you talk to will depend on which they feel is the best and most effective. But you have to realize that organizations would not invest millions of dollars in this type of marketing if it did not work.
 
Let us look at indoor digital signage.
 
This can be in airports, train stations, bus terminals to corporate offices; here they will be used to market products and services to people. The hardware used, usually consists of some type of display and a device that stores the ads, now depending on many adverts are stored, will depend on what type of media player is used, so the choices are a standalone USB player or a networked player, as you can imagine the networked player is connected to the net and updates sent over the internet, a good idea for multiple locations, where the USB player is ideal in a single location.
Outdoor digital signage.
 
This can be seen in the images that are most memorable! The first image is of some sides streets in Manhattan, New York and consist of very large screens, some as large as houses being used to promote a product or service. Then the next image is of an outdoor video wall that has been fitted to a Disney Cruise ship to entertain the guests whilst at the pool.
 
The hardware for outdoor advertising solutions can be as basic as a display, media player and a protective LCD enclosure that will provide the right protection from the weather and provide a waterproof solution, then you can go to the other end of the price spectrum and look at an LED video wall that costs around 50 times more. At the end of the day the person who is tasked with any digital signage project, has to be mindful of the limitations of the location they intend on using and this then dictates the solution that is best for the job.
 
It would be no good, installing a display only to find the following day it had broken, so plan and work your plan.

The goal is always to create a pleasant, entertaining and informative solution, that can be viewed and people can interact with.
