During the quarantine lock-down, I knew I needed to find more digital work as I now could not shoot photography and needed to stay in my at-home workspace. That’s when Marisa Tolbert reached out to me about a logo for her new podcast!

Marisa wanted an animated mini-version of herself wearing headphones and holding a cell phone with her body popping out of the box. The rest was up to my creative design.
I researched complimentary colors and symbols that I knew would express Marisa’s fun personality well. I also wanted to include aspects that would describe what her channel will talk about. It was a blessing to work with her. She immediately trusted and believed that I could provide her something worthy — that’s the kind of clients we need everyday, y’all.

Go check out her podcast called “Out of the Box” on FB now! She covers topics like: faith, mental illness, lifestyle, and more. Maybe one day I’ll be featured, who knows?
Out of the Box with Marisa Tolbert — podcast (finished logo design)
I started the design process of this logo in my sketchbook after discussing with the client the artwork style that she enjoyed. She was inspired by 90s cartoons and anime styles. She also loves the color yellow. I made the character resemble a portrait of the client's face and then drew the body coming out of the box to go along with the name of the brand. I also drew the character holding her cell phone with headphones since the podcast would mainly be recorded on her cell phone. I scanned the sketch into my computer, cleaned it up, and then pulled it into Adobe Illustrator where I turned it into a vector graphic. In Illustrator, I would add the color schemes. The client's main brand tagline was about "being the light in the darkness" derived from her favorite Bible verse. So I added the verse text and a light bulb detail to her shirt to give that appeal too.
