Sucrose

Table sugar, also known as sucrose, is formed by two sugars - glucose and fructose joined together through a glycosidic bond. Sucrose is produced naturally in plants such as sugar cane and sugar beets where it is extracted and refined into granulated white sugar for human consumption. Interestingly, sucrose is the only sugar which bacteria can use to produce a sticky polysaccharide, allowing them to form plaques and cause tooth decay.
