The natural beauty of Asters...

The natural beauty of Asters and Bees.

When I photograph flowers... occasionally I also photograph bees. In this project, I share my best photos of New England Asters & Large-leaved Asters and bees.

New England asters (Aster de Nouvelle-Angleterre) bloom in late summer and early fall. Perennial native to Québec. This aster is the prettiest of our flora, according to Brother Marie-Victorin (he is the founder of the botanical garden of Montreal). Its abundant and prolonged flowering is an invaluable food source for a number of insects late in the season. Preferably this aster is planted thickly, as the base tends to become sparser.
Large-leaved aster (Aster à grandes feuilles)

Perennial native to Québec. The base of this large aster sports broad heart-shaped leaves, while the upper leaves come in varied shapes. The nectar and pollen from its flowers attract a number of pollinators and butterflies. This plant makes a handsome impression when planted in quantity in shady corners.
