Book Cover Design, Illustration and Ceramix for "Hanging Gardens"
A photobook by Mihai Costache about the Romanian phenomenon of indoor jungles adorning corridors of mass housing blocks.
Following Semiramida, one of the many village women relocated by the Communist regime, the book and the ceramics revisit the legend of her namesake, and the Hanging Gardens of Babylon while exploring their contemporary counterpart: hallway plants as monuments of solitude
I illustrated and sculpted the dual character of Semiramida which was afterwards translated to linocuts for the cover and the story. Additional characters of plants were also created in a similar technique decorating the book.
Mixed feelings of sorrow and joy are also presented in a ceramic series inspired from the story, with each pot showcasing a different avatar.
