Pixel Art: Re-Sourced Cutscenes

Re-Sourced | Story Concept
Pixel art cutscenes from a story concept called Re-Sourced. These two scenes depict small fragments of the overall story.

Alone on a new planet, 50,000 humans live a simple life centered around the mining and eventual exporting of Element N (EN for short), a miracle mineral with the ability to power humanity for millions of years. Within a few months, the company-workers responsible for the operation cut ties and form a new company of their own, using their endless supply of EN as leverage over the workers and families amongst them.

What was expected to be a mission of hope turned into another example of humankind's love for greed, power, and wealth. Until Jak, a company man with a moral compass, stumbles upon an abandoned mine filled with an endless supply of EN. With that, his inside knowledge, and a passion to unite the people, he was an unstoppable force ready to restore hope and the original plan.

The "Oceanic Alliance" is the name of the group aligning under Jak's movement. In a world that's surface is mostly water, land was reserved for the previously wealthy. This served as a proxy for their now-useless money, granting them status and power. Land-dwellers getting on board with the people puts them at serious risk of losing everything they have. Seeing the black and gold colors of the Alliance flying on land was a message to the entire planet.
With the surface being mostly water, mines were built straight down into the ocean with the same modular building blocks used to build houses, docks, and other various buildings. This scene depicts the beginning of the story, when the company built the first mine. Intentions were good and the people back on Earth took a collective deep breath for the first time in a decade.
