Silhouettes*

This effort was inspired by the elegant silhouettes of contemporary British photographer, Alan Schaller. His were achieved by camera settings. But the advent of luminance range masking makes them easy to create post-camera, in the photo editor. The range mask is simply set to mask, or protect, the brightest areas of the photo, while all else is dropped away to black. Of course, this technique requires a backlit or side-lit subject, and works best in black-and-white.
