Exploration of Media
This packaging design is a project that I completed for my ART 103 Independent Tools assignment. For this assignment, we were tasked with combining digital tools to create anything that we wanted. This design shows my ability to explore media because I created something that I have never done before. I am very interested in pursuing packaging design in my career but I hadn't explored it before this assignment. I used Adobe Illustrator to create the graphics and type. I also used Adobe Photoshop to edit the barcode and fragile label. At the start of this project I was unfamiliar with packaging design and Illustrator. When I started I had to do lots of research into how to create the box layout so I could cut it out to create a physical box. Once I figured that aspect out I did a lot of sketching and research into lava lamp box designs. I wanted to take a nostalgic direction and embrace the 70's vibe. It took lots of trial and error to get the typeface how I wanted it. I haven't explored typography much before this project so it was a fun challenge to implement. After printing and cutting out the design I created an insert out of matboard to give it sturdiness. This project pushed me out of my comfort zone and grew my passion for packaging design.
