BilicareFocus (a neo-natal care phototherapy unit)
The challenge was to create an economical and elegant phototherapy care unit based on new low band, narrow frequency LEDs.
Salient Features
- Faceted LED Panel to focus the blue light only on baby tray & to avoid wastage of light & avoid light pollution in the room.
- Special LED used which produces less heat.
- Almost double the life of LED as recommended irradiance is achieved using only 50% of power
- Minimal light pollution
- Economical, more power efficient, and faster discharge
- Smart controller that indicates the phototherapy used hours, treatment time, infant feed schedule & also controls the irradiance.
Problems with existing equipment
- use of general-purpose LEDs
- wide beam angles resulting in wastage
- inconsistent radiation over the body surface
- scattered light, light pollution leading to nausea among ICU staff
- tendency to bring the phototherapy source closer to the baby to increase efficiency which might be harmful
