Photo Contest - Year 2001: Main architectural and sculptural monuments of the city of Buenos Aires.
Winner: Me - 1st.
Prize: Restoration of an emblematic building.
Building chosen for restoration: The Railway Building.
In this foto: The Railway Building is a building designed in 1907 and built between that same year and 1910 (although it was only opened in 1914), in the city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, being considered as the first "skyscraper" (for the time) of this city and of all Latin America. At the beginning of the 20th century, railway companies in Argentina were for the most part in English (if not French) hands. In the mid-1900s, the companies of the Southern Railway (today Roca), the Central Argentine Railway (today Miter), the Western Railway (today Sarmiento) and the Buenos Aires-Pacific Railroad (today San Martín) decided to nuclear its offices in a single building. It was completed in 1910 (as indicated by a molding in its access: "AD 1910"), but when a Buenos Aires newspaper reported that the structure seemed to be tilting and at risk, the inauguration was suspended, and the building was first occupied in 1914 In 1947 it happened to belong to "Ferrocarriles Argentinos" (previous nationalization of these), and in 1955 to Aerolineas Argentinas.
