Imagine graduating from Cal Poly GrC one year early and start your journey for higher education at 21 years old.

This is Lauren Mindolovich’s story. Right now, she is in her first month at the Vanderbilt University and is part of the Marketing Candidate Master’s program.

She already knew while being an undergraduate GrC student that grad school would be her next step. After completing her classes with a concentration in Packaging she decided to apply for different master programs.

The result? Now she is living in Nashville and is part of the Vanderbilt-family.

She loves to reminisce about her time in SLO and the GrC department. “My absolute favorite class-experience was the Magazine Design class (GrC 440).” During the quarter you write articles, make the design, and tidy up the whole finishing process. “I loved the satisfaction of holding the completed magazine in my hand afterwards.”

In her opinion, grad school is the perfect opportunity to connect with people who have different backgrounds. In the Vanderbilt program a variety of undergraduate majors are welcomed. Additionally, this step is a perfect combination of gaining knowledge in different areas and enhancing her current mindset.

These days, supporting sustainability efforts are not only a personal choice but also a responsibility for larger organizations. Senior Annika Furr is making it a priority to increase Cal State’s sustainability efforts. For her senior project, Annika wants to implement mandatory sustainability training for all CSU universities. Annika’s goal is to promote sustainability knowledge through a more interactive learning environment. She has accumulated a set of videos, slides, quizzes, and eye-catching graphics to promote sustainability in a fun way!

Annika describes her project below:
“Sustainable Living Edu is a multi-disciplinary project involving a team of students and employees from several majors and departments on campus. Ultimately, the goal is to get this resource mandated as a campus-wide training for all students and employees upon admission or start employment at the University, and thereafter spread it to the other 22 CSU campuses”.
Through this program, Annika hopes to promote more sustainable efforts and knowledge in the CSU education system. If more people know about the effects they have on our environment and the little things they can do to help, it will make a big impact on California’s environment.
