N I S H I K I G O - Furniture Design Award 2014

Möbel
NISHIKIGO, ( Received Grand Award Under the Students Category )
also known as Koi, is a type of fish or carp that is largely reared in the Asian countries for decorative purposes or as a lucky charm. There is belief in most Asian countries that it symbolizes Ambition, Courage, Fortune, Longevity, Perseverance, Prosperity and Success. We often see paintings, photographs or sculptures of Koi in restaurants and individual homes; and the texture derived from the scales of this living creature has intrigued me to combine it with an essential furniture we use daily - that is, a chair. This individual stools are space-savvy and can also be displayed as an ornament or statement piece when stacked together in threes. The chair focuses on how each stool can be stacked and overlapped to mimic the scales of the Koi fish, creating a meaningful design piece that subtly promotes the Asian element.
