This illustration was commissioned by Polytechnic Institute of Cávado and Ave, in Portugal, to commemorate the 48th anniversary of our most beautiful revolution: the one that freed us from a 40-year long dictatorship.
It was called The Carnation Revolution, as it ended up being a peaceful revolution, without a single shot fired - and flower sellers took to the streets and started putting carnations in soldiers' rifle barrels.
To this day, the carnation is still a symbol of resistance and freedom in Portugal.
