Sacramento Kings 10-Page Spread

My final project for my Integrating Writing and Design class was to design a 10-page spread. As a huge Sacramento Kings fan, I decided to put together a spread celebrating the torrid start to the season we were having.
When it comes to sports news Sports Illustrated was the gold standard for forever. Growing up, my family got SI and I got SI for Kids. I read both, and I always loved the elegance of the spreads in SI as well as the fun and playful vibe of the Kids edition. I wanted to find a way to balance those two identities in my work, creating a vibe that felt professional yet acknowledged how much fun this season has been as a Kings fan.
I decided to lean into a sketched/handdrawn aesthetic for this project, pairing a airbrush-style font with doodled crowns and lightning bolts, both of which have been big in the Kings' professional branding this year, and framing all the pictures in doodled sticky-note frames
Finding pictures for the article was the easy part. I wanted to make sure I got all the biggest contributors, and with the exception of 6MOTY contender and notable omission Malik Monk, I had very few issues finding pictures that worked. There's so much great sports photography out there. Shoutout photographers.
Final product, as exported directly from InDesign. I tried to strike a nice balance of text and ancillary content, including sidebars into statistical analysis, a two-page spread design in the middle of the article with 4 pictures flowing across the top, and a visualization of their schedule for the rest of the season to close the article. Additionally, I also included some mockups of what the article could look like in print.
