At Fidjrosse beach, Cotonou, whatever time net is cast out to sea, everyone who puts their hands to rope is a fisherman. Child, woman, man, stranger; everyone who drags and pulls, wrestles the ocean's current with their foot holding net still on loose sand, who sings and chants -a cry to the sea to give and give abundantly- is a fisherman.
The project documents the process of traditional fishing and on-ground netting techniques applied by local fishermen in the Cotonou area of Benin Republic. It highlights the space of traditional works against the backdrop of modern society and how these practices foster socialization and community engagement amongst locals.
