"MOJ IN TL’AQUA / ‘NSERTA DOPU NSERTA"
Moj in tl'aqua / 'Nserta dopu nserta, are two phrases seemingly distant from each other
from each other, distant in sound, distant in location. They represent two worlds, two stories that speak to each other at a distance. Mondine, paddy field workers, and Tabacchine, Salento tobacco workers, have very similar stories that intertwine in the distance and touch each other in unexpected ways.
Their story speaks of suffering and injustice that find an outlet in work songs: the only escape from the long and harrowing hours of labor.
Moj in tl'aqua / 'Nserta dopu nserta wants to juxtapose the world of the mondine with that of the tabacchine and vice versa, through an encounter that never happened. Thus, the project seeks to achieve a "new testimony," a testimony that is the result of open confrontation, attuned dialogue, and mutual, authentic, and constructive engagement. It is precisely for this reason that the book is designed in such a way that it has neither beginning nor end: on one side is the story of the mondine of the lower Bolognese area and on the other is the story of the tabacchine of the Lecce area and vice versa. The exhibit becomes an integral part of the space in which it is placed, taking on new meanings.

First place of reception is the Castello Volante in Corigliano d'Otranto where it was exhibited from July to October 2022.
