Eight sheets(2023)
I started this project from one question, 'How can trash be a material?' I recycled newspapers that were used and thrown away every day, and designed the lighting using the characteristics of the paper.
'Eight Sheets'는 쓰레기가 제품의 소재로 어떻게 활용될 수 있을지에 대한 호기심에서 출발한 프로젝트입니다. 매일 사용되고 버려지는 신문지를 재활용하며, 종이가 갖고 있는 특성을 활용하여 디자인하였습니다.
Studying material
The disadvantage of using paper as a material was its fragility and short lifespan. To address the inherent fragility of paper, I incorporated wheat starch into the composition. Barley starch, in its refined form, possesses the unique quality of being resistant to decay over time, making it a popular choice for preserving artworks by deterring insect damage. Leveraging these attributes, we employed barley starch as a material to enhance the cohesion of the paper, ensuring its longevity and structural integrity.
종이를 소재로 활용함에 있어서의 단점은 연약함과 수명이 짧다는 것이었습니다. 이를 보완하기 위해 소맥 전분을 사용했습니다. 소맥 전분은 일반 전분이 정제된 형태로, 시간이 지나도 벌레를 먹지 않는다는 특징에서 미술작품을 보존하는데에도 많이 사용되어왔습니다. 이러한 특성을 활용하여 종이의 수명을 연장하고 구조적으로 잘 응집될 수 있도록 돕는 소재로 사용하였습니다.
