Experimental Book Zaireeka

Zaireeka
Experimental book
A book that explores the relation between content and physical support through countless possibilities as a result from the way it is approached by the user. It is focused on a public that is interested in experimental projects and unconventional formats.
Its content is based on the album Zaireeka from the band The Flaming Lips, which is divided in 4 discs that can be heard simultaneously or in any order.

The book is composed by a textual part, which presents the concept and history of Zaireeka, and an illustrated part, that represents the songs and is inspired by the structure of the album.
The texts are superimposed in Portuguese and English, one in green and the other in red. For reading, there are two filters in the same colors that reveal the content in the desired language, when placed above the text. The illustrated part is composed of blades with geometric drawings that represent each of the songs and are arranged in 4 envelopes. In the same way that happens with the discs, they can be handled and overlapped freely, providing optical effects and generating multiple results.
All elements are stored in a case, with an external compartment for illustrated blades, which allows the users to create and keep their personalized cover.

Course final project in Visual Design at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, supervised by professor Airton Cattani.

Winner of the "Prêmio Destaque TCC" 2013 Award by ApDesign.
