Abstract work inspired by the Woody Point Wreck, "Gayundah"
Bearing the Aboriginal name for lightening yet looking remarkably like a heavy clothes iron, gunboat HMQS Gayundah was first operated in 1884 by the Queensland Maritime Defence Force and then by the Royal Australian Navy. In 1921 she was decommissioned and sold to a sand mining company. She plied the Brisbane River as a gravel barge until sold for scrap in the 1950s. In 1958 the hull was purchased by the Redcliffe Town Council and beached at Woody Point to form a protective breakwater at the shoreline.
