The subject of my MA work is the Typographic design and illustration Livre D’ Artiste of the book “The Helmet of Horror” by Victor Pelevin. I chose this specific book among others that seemed interesting to me because in this book Pelevin reconstructs the well-known myth of Theseus and the Minotaur for modern readers in a very special and interesting way, placing skillfully among the Labyrinth internet. The book “The Helmet of Horror” is pioneer, surreal and poses existential questions through a narration with, sometimes, black humor.
The book could be illustrated in many ways, it has an extremely interesting plot and I thought it was ideal to form a subject worthy of a Livre d’ Artiste.

METHODOLOGY
I started from an extended research about the writer, his work, and the literary criticism and critical essays for the book “The Helmet of Horror”, the methods of writing a critical essay for the best understanding of the book and its’ illustration needs, the original myth of Theseus and the Minotaur and the characters analysis, the illustration and typography of Livres d’ Artistes, illustrations of many kinds in various paintings, engravings, book illustrations and book covers with subject on retold myths.
After collecting the needed information, I started drawing right away, in order to create the characters of the book at first, and secondly many rough drawings in order to choose the best for the final images. Above is the final drawing of Minotaur's helmet.

After I chose the best rough drawings I started experimenting on styles and colors. After a lot of experimentation I concluded to the illustration style that suited more the needs of the book. Here are some samples of my experimentation.
After concluding to the style and colors, then I started creating the final images for the book.
