The Hollows Gig Poster

For this project I was tasked with creating a gig poster that conveys emotion for an imaginary band who creates music for a specific genre. For my poster I chose to pick a pop indie band.
For my concept I thought about the emotions I feel when I listen to music and my experience. I thought about when I'm sad and I listen to music to make myself feel better it feels like an escape to another world. This poster was designed to replicate that experience.
When coming up with an idea and sketching, I started by doing some mind maps and thinking of popular imagery we see throughout music and why. I broke it down to what emotions are behind those images and why the artist chose that image to portray the message of the song. From there I broke it down to what the most creative way was to show that emotion in a story telling way.
From my initial draft the feedback I got was to put less emphasis on everything but the eye, making the eyelashes feel more natural and to adjust the eye to convey more emotion. For the eye I decided to remove some of the white strokes from elements and change the color of the stars. For the Eyelashes I added more and added a variation of shape, width, and length to the eyelashes. Lastly to make the eye look more like its crying the closed the eye more to replicate a real eye.
My final poster fits the genre of a pop indie band who gives and escape to those who listen. This escape is an energetic vibe that transports you to a new world when we are experiencing heartache.
